The life and times of Catty Kim, condensed

Maybe more then you want to know about me, Frances Kimberly, a/k/a Catty Kim

First of all you may wonder why I go by my middle name. It’s a family tradition, a southern thing, like calling Billy Bob Hickabilly just Bob. Using my middle name does have its uses. If someone calls my house asking for Frances, she ain’t ever home. I know it’s either a phone solicitor or someone asking me to pay them something. Hey it works for me!!

I was born in the backwoods of Murray Kentucky, and was adopted by family members twice!! First my biological cousin and her husband became my mom and dad. Then when they died her parents (my biological aunt and her husband) assumed custody telling me that they had adopted me.

But my biological aunt and uncle, my parents as far as I knew at this point kinda lied. They told me that they had adopted me. So imagine my surprise when I went to get my drivers license and my father handed me my birth certificate, I opened it and found out my last name listed on it was not the name I had been going by for these many years. So, I went to him and said “Dad you gave me the wrong birth certificate I need the one that says you are my dad” He said. “Kim we need to talk.”

I then found out they had never ever adopted me and had just been my legal guardians all of these years and I had no legal right to the use of their last name. This was a shock to me especially since it was only 3 weeks before my graduation from high school. I had to change all of my school records. The worst part was the lady that supposedly adopted me also worked at my high school. She was pissed that I changed my name to the name on my birth certificate. Instead of not talking to me again, she decided that all we were going to talk about was how much I had embarrassed her instead of admitting she was wrong in not telling me the truth about my last name.

Now that you know some of the things that warped me as a child, let’s get to the things that I have enjoyed or still enjoy as an adult.

My favorite things to read are either Ellery Queen’s or Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazines. I love the older ones and have found some really good deals on them at Ebay.

I love most types of movies, except blood and gore. Some of my favorites are: Heart’s and Souls, Fried Green Tomatoes, Brigadoon, Love at Stake (a very campy movie), Shreck (I & II) and Finding Nemo.

I love laughter, sarcastic comments, funky shirts, writing Kimism’s, the cat’s that I am owned by (you are never own a cat they own you) and making comments that people either have to think about or they can laugh about.

I have been married since 1989, got married in Vegas at Chapel of the Fountain in Circus Circus (after all marriage is a juggling act).

I know ladies are not ever supposed to talk about their age. But I am going to be honest and tell you that I am old enough that the songs I listened to in high school are now called the “oldies”. However, I am not yet old enough that they are called the “classics”.

Speaking of music, if it came out after the 80’s I don’t have a clue about it. I love bubble gum rock (yes, the Archie’s and Monkee’s are my favorites). I also love disco music. Yes I am the one who had the lighted platform shoes and scarf skirt that you saw up on the dance floor.

And since this is suppose to be a short bio, and is already slightly long, I will stop here.
